News
for the New Year
Happy New Year!
We hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season, and that you were
able to enjoy at least some quiet time with family and friends before
starting the new year.
A few updates from
Customs that you should know:
Tariff Updates:
We've all been waiting for news on the 2007 tariff file from Customs,
and we received Administrative Message 07-0008 this morning with an
update. The message stated that the new file will become effective around
February 3, 2007. A draft of the 2007 file has been posted on http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/.
Customs will send another message when the date and file are
finalized.
In the meanwhile,
BEFORE YOU QUERY ANY TARIFF in 2007, please be sure to create
last year's tariff file! You can download instructions on how to do
this by clicking here.
January
2, 2007 was declared a national holiday: Any statements with
a due date of 1/2/07 should be manually changed to 01/03/07. The January
Periodic Monthly Statement is now due on 1/24/07. Please see Administrative
Message 07-0006 for details.
New Country
Codes for Serbia and Montenegro: As announced in ABI Message
06-1217, Serbia and Montenegro should be reported with new ISO codes,
effective 01/01/07. You may query these countries using the ABI Queries
program to make sure you have the latest information.
Andean Treaty:
The US Congress has renewed the agreement under which products
from Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador can enter the North American
market without duties. ABI has not sent any information regarding this
extension but until such news is received you may continue to use the
"J" prefix when processing entries from those countries.
