ABI Administrative Messages: Important, Please Read!

Have you heard the news? ABI Messages will no longer be available after February 11, 2008. Up until now, these messages were a great way to learn about changes in Customs regulations, receive notifications about updates to the tariff schedules, and more.

Instead of receiving messages through ABI, you can now sign-up for the new Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS). When you register, you will receive e-mails from U.S. Customs with notifications pertaining to various aspects of the trade.

Don't wait to sign up! Click on the link below to learn more about the new program and to sign up. You will also be able to select your preferences about what type of information you want to receive.

Payroll Reminder

Please remember to update your Withholding tax tables so that they are up-to-date with the latest 2008 info from the Internal Revenue Service. You are responsible for updating these tables on a yearly basis, based on information mailed to you by the IRS.

If you are not sure how to do this, and need additional assistance, please give us a call.

Export/AES Users Take Note!

While our Import users receive more frequent notifications about tariff updates from ABI, the tariff file on the Export side is also updated from time to time and changes are reported via bulletins from U.S. Customs. It is your responsibility to make sure you keep up with these changes, so you need to update your files at least once a year for AES-reporting purposes.

If you haven't downloaded the Schedule B numbers file in some time, make sure to do so by using the following steps, but call us first to make sure you have the latest version of the update program:

1 - Connect to the customs website at:
http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/aes/documentlibrary/index.html#concordance
2 - Click in AES Export Concordance to Open the file
a - Click on AES Export Concordance link (NOT the Delimited File).
3 - Click in File Menu and select Save as:
a - Switch the "Save in:" to the data directory of the OSAS or ASCI system
     b - Click on Save.
4 - Close the internet explorer window once the file is saved.
5 - Now, press Page Down at the Import Schedule B Codes screen to continue with the update.

Security Filing "10+2"

There has been a lot of talk recently about the upcoming Security Filing "10+2" rule. As you know, this legislation is in the rule-making stages, and brokers can submit questions to CBP regarding these requirements before they are finalized.

Once these changes are ready to be implemented, ASCI will have the programs ready for our users to meet these new requirements. Make sure to check the cbp.gov website for more information or to submit any questions to US Customs before March 3, 2008.

Haiti Hope Legislation

If any of your entries fall under the Haiti Hope Legislation, please call us to receive important program changes to comply with this regulation.

This change affects Visa Type Entries which are from Haiti and are using any of the following tariff numbers:

98206125
98206130
98206205
98206212

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
