December 2010

GSP Termination

On December 27, CBP sent out CSMS# 10-000292 regarding the GSP Special Program Indicators of "A" and "A+" which are due to expire after midnight, December 31, 2010.

While congressional action will likely extend the program in 2011, you will have rejections for entries dated on or after January 1 that use those indicators but are not paying duties.

Make sure to be on the look-out for CSMS updates coming on this topic.

If you want to set your system to disable the GSP tariff reductions for the "A" and "A+" indicators, go to Applications Manager/ Company Set-Up/ Applications Options. For Application ID, enter "IP" and press <Page Down> until you get to the question that says "Calculate duty for GSP Entries?" and set the answer to YES.

If you use the graphical version of ASCI this question will be found on Page 7 and if you use the text version (blue screen) it will be on page 5. Don't forget to press <Page Down> through the end of the program until you get back to the original window. Do not change any other values in this program!
